Workington and District Amateur Radio & IT Group

MX0WRC

The Club has been in existence for about 6 years and meets every other Monday evening in the Helena Thompson Museum in the town of Workington. Here's the museum in all it's glory. The club was originally founded by Brian Walker, G0OMB, who via a lot of hard work and persistence was able to secure funding from local groups, charities and businesses to equip the shack.

In the first 2 years a lot of work was done in local schools and other interest groups to promote the hobby. In September 04  members of the group carried out their first DX-expedition to the Isle of Arran, EU-123. In September 05 the group once again travelled to the Scottish Islands operating from Mull and Iona, EU-008, in October 2006 the group visited the Isle Of Skye and in Oct 2007 4 operators visited the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides.

The most recent DX-pedition was a joint venture with the Sands Contest Group from Morecambe which ran from 22-29 September on the Isle of Jura.

The Club welcomes visitors and is always on the look out for new members so if your in the area or interested then just drop in, the meetings run from 7pm until 9pm with activities each meeting night.
